One of the sites I did my research on was called Foxytunes. The URL is http://www.go2web20.net/app/?a=Foxytunes%20Planet
“Foxytunes Planet aggregates music videos, photos, news, bios and much more from any number of sources all over the Web into one convenient place.” You can search for the top genres or featured artists or type the artist or song name.
FoxyTunes browser works with Firefox and Explorer. If you click on
FoxyTunes has a browser add-on where you can control the music while you surf the web.
You can find news, videos, photos and more about the artist. It’s as simple as clicking on the artist and finding out more about them. You can watch the lastest video and song and see photos that are posted in flickr. You can also view lyrics for the song. You can view videos on YouTube on the artist you select without leaving the site. It links you to that site and others that are related to it.
In the classroom setting I would introduce artists using Foxytunes and have students listen to the interviews and listen to a recording of their music. An example would be of Itzhak Perlman. I would introduce Itzhak Perlman as one of the world renown violinists and share some of the history of how he overcome polio and his courage to continue with his music even though he had a handicap. That didn’t stop him from continuing his love and passion for his music. The music from Schindler’s List by John Williams “the subject of the movie was important to” him and that he felt that he could “contribute simply by knowing the history and feeling the history and indirectly being a victim of that history.”
